What is SRN?

KIN~UNKNOWN

SRN stands for Service Request Number.
It’s a unique alphanumeric code generated when you submit Form IEPF-5 on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) portal. Think of it as your claim’s identity card—it ensures that every step of the process is tied back to your request.

Why Does SRN Matter?
The SRN isn’t just a number; it’s the thread that connects your claim from start to finish. Here’s how it works:
• Tracking Progress: You can use SRN to check the status of your claim on the MCA portal.
• Verification: Companies and their Registrars & Transfer Agents (RTAs) rely on SRN to prepare the E-verification Report (EVR) that confirms your entitlement.
• Communication: Any queries, discrepancies, or updates from IEPFA officials are linked to your SRN.
• Final Approval: Without SRN, your claim cannot move forward to refund or share transfer.

The SRN Journey
The moment you submit Form IEPF-5 online, your SRN is generated. From there:
1. You send physical documents to the company or its RTA.
2. The company verifies your claim and issues an entitlement letter.
3. The company uploads the E-verification Report (EVR), anchored to your SRN.
4. IEPFA uses the SRN to process your refund or share transfer.
Every milestone in this journey depends on that single code.

Common Pitfalls to Watch Out For
• Postal Receipt Upload: MCA now requires uploading the postal receipt under the “Pending for Action” tab. Without this, your SRN may remain stuck.
• Incorrect Form Details: Even small errors in Form IEPF-5 can lead to rejection.
• Document Delays: If physical papers don’t reach the company in time, your SRN stays pending.
• Ignoring SRN Status: Missing discrepancy notifications can stall your claim indefinitely.

Tips for Claimants
• Always note down your SRN immediately after submission.
• Track your SRN status regularly on the MCA portal.
• Upload the postal receipt promptly to avoid processing delays.
• For NRIs, understanding SRN tracking is especially important—it bridges the distance and makes the process transparent.

Final Thoughts
The SRN may look like just another code, but it’s the lifeline of your IEPFA claim. By understanding and actively tracking it, you ensure smoother processing and faster recovery of your rightful investments. For NRIs, this clarity is crucial—it builds trust and confidence in the recovery process.
